The ATMA has the following aims and objectives:
- To provide a forum for representation to government and statutory bodies on issues of interest to members.
- To remain receptive and responsive to members' needs and interests.
- To monitor and inform members of developments in the taxation and management areas of accountancy.
- To conduct seminars and conferences on topics of wide business interest to members, kindred bodies and the business, commercial and industrial communities.
- To grant membership to graduates with an accounting major without the need for further qualifications.
- To admit qualified accountants who possess the required educational standards and experience, as determined by the ATMA Membership Committee.
- To promote excellence by sponsoring academic prizes at Australian universities for outstanding students in Taxation Law and Management Accounting achieved in a degree course majoring in accounting.
- To obtain widespread recognition for the ATMA in the commerce, industry and accounting profession.
- To foster, through cooperation, relationships with other professional bodies and kindred professional organisations.
